Hello all,
We are in the process of changing our SIP trunk provider. Right now there is a cisco 2811 in between provider and CUCM acting as a CUBE.
The new provider is proposing removing the CUBE and connecting the sip trunk directly to CUCM.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this? as I know CUBE acts as a firewall in between. also what happens to our DSP resources, Can we assign a DSP farm on a device that is not part of the call leg in CUCM to handle transcoding, conferencing, etc...
Thanks,

The CUCM BU doesn't support a direct SIP trunk integration to a SP, they have not officially tested that scenario, and therefore it's not recommended, and not supported.

Thanks Jamie,
Can you please explain more?
What about DSPs? Is it possible to use DSPs on other devices that are not part of the call legs in your calls?

If you want to further discuss with the BU around this, you'll need to engage them via your SE/AM to ask.
Yes, it has always been possible to use DSP's on other devices that are not in the call flow. They will be invoked as necessary, and become part of the call flow.
