Working on a new install of CUCM cube. ISR 4300 as the gateway. It's a pre-existing CUCM environment with a MGCP gateway is current PsTN access. Setup a trunk from CUBE to CUCM, CSS for the trunk includes the partition with the internal DNs, and DNA shows inbound calls should ring the extension. Outbound calls through the CUBE are working but inbound I seem to be getting a 403 from CUCM. I can upload the debug from the gateway but wondering if something I should be looking at on either the CUCM or VG side. I can post up the configuration from the VG as well.
Solved! Go to Solution.

OK that makes sense. You can enable the proxy globally in voice service, but disable it on individual dial peers.
dial-peer voice 11 voip no voice-class sip outbound-proxy

Post your configuration from VG.

If you are truly getting a 403 from CUCM the likely cause could be that you have not bound the dial peers to the proper interface so that the SBC (Cube) is sourcing the inbound calls from the interface that is facing your ITSP. As the trunk in CM is set with an IP to the SBC it would only allow traffic coming from that specific IP. Any other IP(s) would be dropped as part of the built in security in CM.

Here's the configuration from the gateway. I placed an inbound call to 8888888888 for example.

Thanks for rhe detailed chsnges. I'll give them a try this morning. Would there be an issue if CUCM isn't currently setup for E164 or URI?
02-12-2021 06:22 AM - edited 02-13-2021 01:15 AM
None of the configuration I suggested have anything to do with E164 or URI dialing, even if the names of the configuration elements might lead you to believe so. Recommend you to have a look at this excellent document about IOS call routing. In Depth Explanation of Cisco IOS and IOS-XE Call Routing - Cisco It is an absolute classic.

Thanks for the link. I'll be sure to give it a read this weekend. I made the recommended changes and, while it does take bit longer to get the error, ultimately I'm still getting the 403 Forbidden. The carrier is sending 10 digits, I have 4 as significant in the trunk and my DN is just the last 4 of the inbound called number.
This is a debug I gathered earlier today. Calling number being 7777777777 and called number was 8888888888:

In the debug output I see these IPs
172.27.32.10 and 172.27.32.11
What is that, is it other CM CPE nodes that you don’t have defined in your gateway server group? If you have more nodes than the two you have defined in the server group and the trunk is setup to run on all nodes you have two options, either you add all the other nodes to the server group or you add the IPs of these to the trusted list in voice service voip. This is to let the gateway know that it should allow VoIP traffic from these nodes.
It also looks like the call is looping back to the ITSP as the outbound dial peer at time in the debug is the one for outbound to the ITSP. That is likely caused by that the destination numbers you had in your old dial peers, and is now in the number group, cause a loop. This is not a good thing, you should take measures to avoid situations where this can occur by having the number routing not overlap. If you do need to keep the overlap you could look at using COR to limit the path the call takes via your dial peers. For for information on this have a look at this document. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice/call-routing-dial-plans/42720-configuring-cor.html
For the number manipulation part, I would advise you to use voice translations in the gateway to transform the called and calling numbers into the format you’d want it in CUCM. Where you assign this depends on what transformations you do. I would have translated both of these on the ingress from the ITSP, aka on the inbound dial peer for calls from PSTN.

Try with these modifications in the gateway and remove any number transformation/modification you might have in CM on the trunk.

Thanks for the detailed response. The 2 addresses (.10 and .11) we're actually .5 and
6 from the config above.
I'll review the config of the gateway and make sure there aren't any overlaps as there doesn't need to be for this case.
In your example above, what is the use for translation rule 10? Is it just so users can dial a number that is in there call log with the need to edit it to include the 91 to proceed it?
02-13-2021 09:22 AM - edited 02-13-2021 09:46 AM
Yes translation rule 10 is intended for translation of calling number so that the receiver can call back to it without any need for making any manual changes to it on the phones. As you have not shared any real number information or for what country this is for I just used the information at hand and as you had 0T on a dial peer I assumed that this would be how you call out to PSTN. Quite likely you’d need to adopt this to suit your needs.

Understood. This is for US based calling so I can adjust as needed. Thanks
02-14-2021 01:17 AM - edited 02-14-2021 01:32 AM
With US based I would think that something along the line with this should do. However no guarantee, it’s free from memory.
voice translation-rule 10
rule 1 /\(^[2-9]..[2-9]......$\)/ /91\1/
rule 2 /\(^[2-9]......$\)/ /9\1/
rule 3 /.*/ /9011\0/
Then also change the number in the E164 number map to 9T. You would likely also need to have a translation rule for egress calls to drop the 9.
voice translation-rule 40 rule 1 /^9\(.*\)/ /\1/ ! voice translation-profile PSTN-OUT translate called 40 ! dial-peer voice 15 voip translation-profile outgoing PSTN-OUT
