UCxn 8.6.2 - single-inbox mail delivered to a distribution list?

I had our service desk team lead ask me an interesting question about the single-inbox function of Unity Connection (8.6.2).  He asked if we can set up the service desk voicemail to send the single-inbox email to a DL in Exchange...I'm not sure if this would work though.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

Thanks all

I don't see how that could work as you are actually delivering the messages to a specific Exchange mailbox. You could use store/forward function of UCXN and deliver it to the email address of the DL, but that would not sync the message when it is deleted on one side, etc.

Chris

One other option for consideration: They could use Dispatch-style Distribution Lists in CXN to get the same message into a bunch of peoples' mailboxes (which are in turn Single Inbox synced to Exchange). When someone Accepts the Dispatch it would be removed from everyone elses mailbox. There is even a AD DL sync tool to keep the CXN and AD DLs in line. The only problem with this is that Cisco has not added Accept/Defer/Reject UI controls to ViewMail (ignoring my repeated pleas) so the users would have to use their phone to actually Accept the messages. If accepting via the TUI is acceptable or you are a big enough customer to force a feature enhancement to VMO through this would be a great solution.

Thanks Chris--kind of what i thought, but wanted to confirm before i told them it won't work the way they want...

Very nice Jonathan!  I think that will go a long way for our guys on the service desk...the TUI piece is kind of clunky considering they're pushing UM fairly hard these days, but it's much better than nothing.

I wanted to provide an update on this.  I recently got around to trying the dispatch message and trying to have it send an email.  After working with TAC, I came to find out this is not possible, even with the dispatch messaging function...so, hopefully they'll wise up in v.10 later this year...
