I have few questions.
My customer is going for CUCI-Lync 9.2 with UCM 9.1(1)a. IP phone and Lync presence status is mandatory.
What reason(s) would the IM&P server be needed for? Can anyone tell me? Thanks

IM&P would only be required if you were using RCC between Lync and CUCM (presuming you aren't using Jabber / CUPC as the desktop client for any users).
If you're using CUCILyncsolely then AFAIK, IM&P isn't required.

CUCILync is client side integration and no IMP server is needed, CUCILync client publishes phone status directly to Lync.
You need IMP for Jabber clients.
