5520 CIMC update fails/No FLASH access to old CIMC r2.0

Well we are a few years tardy.. Never have any particular use for the CIMC in the past.. We are now behind the curve, and the ucs-c220m4-huu-3.0.4r.iso  imaged and booted from a thumb, fails with error 906 after boot and the update routine is copying files.  and I am now aware for FN 70545

All existing CIMC guidance I can find Pre/Post FLASH demise requires GUI access.

I have tried the various Flash emulators to no affect.

This is a HA pair and I do have cli access to the WLC

Do you have TAC support? I would reach out to them & seek their advice

Hi Rasika,

I read your two blog entries on the subject.  Great stuff. and I have an HA pair.

LOL.. SR 693827911 : cimc update fail,  this case has been open for a while and I even tried to escalate it. to no avail..  it is pending input and I have 5 'inputs'  in the cue.  and I was really just asking if I HAD to upgrade to run 8.10 code.  All I got was the Cisco Documentation recommendation.  Then I found FN 70545 about the SDD module fail's at 40k hrs..  Think we dodged that bullet as they have been online since 2016..

too bad I can't find an old laptop with XP on it  Isolated from the web or someone with the actual flash install file.

I wonder what it was labeled?

Get the 5520 RMAed.

WARNING:  The RMA unit will not have any SDD.

Why the Win XP laptop?

Is it because of Flash/Java issues? For that I might have a workaround if needed. Just recently needed to access a stone-age CIMC with the browser.

I assume you have seen https://bst.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCup62091?

Or use PaleMoon browser.

Pale Moon..  is that like Pale Ale?  Im downloading it now..

ah but it has the same problem as all the rest..

This application requires Flash Player v9.0.246 or higher

I did not find a PaleMoon  specific item for flash.encoded objects.

Last time I used maxthon_portable_4.9.5.1000.7z. This version includes Flash and also supports TLS 1.0, probably the other issue you might face. With this I was able to update some CIMC from 2.0x to 4.0x versions.

UPDATE.    burn the iso to dvd  and boot up..  works fine.

now what was that command to force an active/stby change?

Good to hear David.

 "redundancy force-switchover" on active WLC

Rasika

I did  and the AP management ip went dead..  no resp..  but all ap's are up.. and the cli is dead.  when I clli into the other .. on it reports it be standby..  gui to the .5 gets blank pages  and gui to .4 (official ip) gets no resp

Called TAC  and my Engineer might get baack to me later

ok..  redundancy forced-switchover worked promptly for the AP's  but is took forever for the managment to finally catch up..  Prime was happy all along and the service ports never responded.. because I think they are mapped out to the cimc serial function.

we are up and Active, Standby Hot, Secondary - (Inherited AP License Count = 1500)

What a thrilling ride.

The entire "customer experience" would have been better if the Cisco kept their documentation up-to-date and relevant.  Instead, very simple documentation like this had to depend entirely on people outside of Cisco, like @Rasika Nayanajith's thread, to make such a complicated process look simple.

Cisco is dropping the ball in simple tasks like documentation then it is a good reflection of the quality of their codes and the "games" TAC plays.
