Hi Team,

Currently we are using 9800-CL-k9 with 3702 AP (17.3.5a) IOS version,

we are planning to add new AP 9120 which comes with higher version of IOS (17.6.4.56.)

So the (17.6.4.56.) will support The current AP model. and what are the steps for the up-gradation for the same.

  - Checkout : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/214749-tac-recommended-ios-xe-builds-for-wirele.html , personally I would prefer 17.9.3 which also has supports for the older Wave1 models again. For upgrade path and installation instructions check the release notes.

(appendix) :   Have a checkup review of the 9800-CL-k9  configuration with the CLI command show tech wireless ; feed the output into  https://cway.cisco.com/wireless-config-analyzer/
You will get lots of advisories -> This  procedure is strongly advised ,

17.6.4 APSP1 its show it support both the AP models

While I concure with Marce1000's observation,

I run my 9120's on 17.3.7 without issue.  I have not moved to 17.9.3+ because it removes oeap1810's and 1815t's that's a pair of wave1's they left out.

Interesting!  I wasn't aware those had been left out!

For 2700/3700, I recommend going straight to 17.9.3 (17.9.4 will come out by the end of July 2023).

Currently tested 17.9.3 in standalone (since March 2023) and have now started testing 17.9.3 in HA SSO.

Been running 17.9.3 in HA SSO for a few months now.

1. You've misunderstood - 17.6 does NOT support the wave 1 APs like 3702.  You're getting confused by the reference to IW3700 with 17.6.4 APSP1 - that does not apply to 3702.  3702 is only supported in 17.3.x or 17.9.3 and later 17.9 releases.

2. If you wanted to upgrade to 17.6 it would be to 17.6.5 or later - definitely not 17.6.4!  But that will not support your APs so is not even an option you can consider.

3. As others have suggested (and TAC recommend - see link below) you should consider 17.9.3 with SMU and APSPs (and soon 17.9.4) or 17.3.7 as David suggests, but 17.3 is almost end of life so I'm biased in favour of 17.9 myself (and there have been a lot of problems with 17.3)
