AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 issue with static IP

Hello all, I am faced with a strange issue with these new Access points in our infrastructure.

NAME: AP2800, DESCR: Cisco Aironet 2800 Series (IEEE 802.11ac) Access Point
PID: AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 , VID: V07.

The Access point has been joined to the WLC successfully through VLAN 1 and AP gets DHCP address from VLAN 1.
When I try to configure the Access point from WLC GUI I have issues like don't keeping my changes.
I change the IP address of the AP from DHCP to static address with IP netmask and gw from VLAN 100 and I click apply, and I go to configure switchport access VLAN 100 and then I lose connection to the AP and never come back in VLAN 100 with new static IP.
I change the access port on the switch from VLAN 100 to VLAN 1 and in few seconds the AP is available with the DHCP IP address from VLAN 1.

I tried to stay in VLAN 100 with a new static IP address for 20 minutes.
I tried during this time slot to shut down the port for 30 seconds without success.
I tried to configure the IP from SSH and console manually with GW and reboot the Ap and change the switchport access vlan configuration from VLAN 1 to VLAN 100 without success, again the AP is not reachable.
Only in VLAN networks with DHCP, the AP is reachable and visible in WLC.
Our WLC controller is 5520, the current image is  8.10.130.0 .

For example, we don't have any issues with C2700:
ROM: Bootstrap program is C2700 boot loader
BOOTLDR: C2700 Boot Loader (AP3G2-BOOT-M) LoaderVersion 15.2(4)JB5m, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

But with AIR-AP2802E-E-K9 I can't figure out how to put the AP  in VLAN without a DHCP server with static IP.
If I check the show version on the new AP I see this output:
ROM: Bootstrap program is U-Boot boot loader
BOOTLDR: U-Boot boot loader Version 2013.01-gf899470 (Aug 16 2018 - 15:50:45)

Please could you share your opinion and experience regarding the topic?

Thank you in advance.

First of all upgrade your controller to the latest Cisco recommended AireOS if feasible.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/wireless-lan-controller-software/200046-tac-recommended-aireos.html

Assigning static IP to a AP is not something I would recommend. Once you assign the static IP and hit save did the AP lost it's connection to WLC? is it possible console the AP and see what you can see there. Also does subnet VLAN100 can access the AP Manager interfaces in the WLC?Did you consider enabling DHCP in VLAN100 with option 43?

Hi Arshadsaf,

Thank you for your response.
The upgrade is planned soon.
Assigning static IP to a AP is a rutine procedure here.

"Once you assign the static IP and hit save did the AP lost it's connection to WLC?"
-Yes.

"is it possible console the AP and see what you can see there."
- Usually it's possible but I am remote support and it's a little difficult but in last my attempt with the console I didn't see too much, next time I will try to capture the terminal with logging.

"Also does subnet VLAN100 can access the AP Manager interfaces in the WLC?"
- Yes, it's a Cisco network with inter-VLAN routing.

"Did you consider enabling DHCP in VLAN100 with option 43?"
- Please could you explain in short option 43?
- I think it's possible but it will not be approved by the Infrastructure local teams.

Best Regards.

Option 43 is used advertise the WLC AP Manager IP's. So once the AP boots up, AP will know the WLC IP.

Also once the AP registered in WLC using VLAN 1, Go to Wireless==>All AP==>Select the AP==>High Availability and hardcode the WLC name and AP manager IP.

I answered a similar question last week: https://community.cisco.com/t5/wireless/ap-ip-address/m-p/4450616#M232387
