AP802 Module in 1941 Router.

I have a AP802 module from another router a 892w and I saw that the 1941's do have a wireless version, so I wondered if it's at all possible to use that module in one of them?

If not is there a way to add wireless to that router via another method?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks

I did not find any documentation saying it will not work. If the tray and size matches, is up to you to test. Knowing that if something went wrong, it is on you.

But, to be safe on this, I would recommend to get the proper module.

Hello @thegman

I dont believe you can mix up module but for 1941 you can use 1941W.

This is only 802.11n and It is end of life but depending on the purpose It Will work.

Thank you for the reply,

I was just trying to use up some spare bits I have laying around and thought it would make more sense to put the module into a 1941 instead of just getting another 1941 with the wireless already in and it just having a extra letter in the name

But I guess that I will just leave the module in the 892w and find something else for the 1941 to do.

It does match in size and the socket, I have not put it in yet.

I do see that the 1941w, uses a AP801 and not a AP802 like I thought.

I will report back if I do decide to give it a try, but I guess that has solved it for now.

Thanks

Plesae, let us know. Sure more people around here can come across the same situation.

Just finished trying the module out in the 1941, it does seem to work sort of, the module powers and it still has the configuration from when it was in the other device, but there is no bridging interface like it would have on the other router.

During the boot up there were a few extra messages showing errors.

I am not sure what to take from this as one error says that it is not supported on this image/license but then the module is clearly working just without anyway to route to it.

If it was a AP801 and not a AP802 I suspect it would of just been the firmware/license problem instead.

Anyway thank you for the help and hopefully this lets others know as well.

I'm not surprised it doesn't work.  Even if you had the correct AP module I don't think it would work because the router PID is still the non-wireless version so IOS will not enable or configure the correct options for using the AP module.

Yes I also figured that would be the case as well even if I did have the correct module, I assume that is something that can not be changed or upgraded and would need to purchase the actual wireless version of the hardware instead.
