Cat 9800 AP join profile

Hi

I'm wondering if there is a list of things that, if changed, cause an AP to disassociate and re associate with the WLC.

In particular if I change part of an AP join profile, which is then referenced in the Site tag, will the AP disconnect even for a short time and reconnect to download the updated AP join profile?  Or is a change to that a soft change with no impact?

I'm thinking about Hyperlocation and aWIPS.  If I change the setting for those will the AP disconnect and re-connect?

Thank you, Kev

You can make change existing profiles in tags, then the ap will rejoin.  If you make changes to profiles, then its transparent and the ap will not have to rejoin.  If you apply a new AP join profile to a Site tag, the ap will rejoin.  Hope that makes sense.

I removed and added again aWIPS and hyperlocation on my test AP join profile and the 2702 AP using this profile stayed registered. I suggest you to try on particular AP with special join profile and site tag if you plan to make the change due to business hours. Anyways, on our setup it did not affect AP association.

Thanks Scott.

I fired up a Cat9800v and tested this out and as you say, changing the setting withing the profile had no impact on the APs.  Nothing worse than making some change and all your APs suddenly drop off.  People just can't live without their Wifi can they?

Yeah, but understanding when you will impact the wireless is also good to know.  There is no way you can not impact the wireless or even wired when you really have to make a change.  We always send notifications to the site when we will be taking downtime, they really don't have a choice, especially when we do the change after working hours.  In other situations like a 24x7, you still need to find a window to make changes, its just life:)
