Hello has anyone deployed a C9800-CL in an Azure environment? I have a question regarding a downgrade as the version isntalled is 17.7.1,
Q1: Is it possible to downgrade to an older version 17.3.x as we are still running old APs
Q2: Is the downgrade step the same as physical box
Q3: Are there documentations related to this concern?
Thanks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Which probably means as B. suggested that for Azure , lower versions are not possible (and or incompatible).

When deploying in Azure, I don't see an option to select what firmware will be installed

ok Looks like that is the version only supported on Azure here as per document and video : (so i do not believe you can downgrade here)

- FYI : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/216838-upgrade-and-downgrade-of-catalyst-9800-c.html#anc25 , you might be better off by deploying new azure-vm (9800-CL) and copying the configuration. For any scenario , when intending production ,before -> use CLI : show tech wireless , have the output processed by https://cway.cisco.com/tools/WirelessAnalyzer/ , and review it!

Hi, But the issue is the version, there is no documentation stating that it can be downgraded from 17.7.x to 17.3.x, If a new Azure VM(C9800) is created, it automatically has a version of 17.7.1

Depends on how you have deployed the WLC in Azure, so the question is have deployed in natively in Azure or as a VM in Hyper-V?
If natively Cisco 9800 support for Azure was introduced in 17.7.1 so downgrading will not be an option, if it is deployed as a VM then you can install 17.3 as a new code, Cisco officially doesn't support any downgrades in 9800 software as of now.
