Connect WAP via fiber

We are planning to deploy two additional WAPs in our workshp basement space. The point is that the space is located in a different building than our main office. Due to distance between the buildings, there's a fiber patch panel between our main server room and the workshop. We've come to the conclustion that instead of installing dedicated access switch in a workshop that would be unterutilized, we may mount wireless access points, connect them to power via external power adaptor, and use ethernet to fiber converter between WAP and fiber patch panel. Have you ever tried such solutiuon? Should it work without any issues?

Yes that option exist and I have used it a lot in large warehouses when there is no option to connect a wired due to the long path, so using media converters with integrated PoE+ you can deploy APs there.

But take into consideration that if there are lot of users at that location, maybe only one AP won't be enough due to high load of the RF medium (channel) when using high load applications, but also how to provide redundancy in case of AP failure, unless you will have a spare unit for quick replacement in that site.

Personally should not see any issue, since you are powring up the AP with external power and you using fibre converter for the Ethernet, so the AP should able to join WLC as expected.

Its a common solution, try to buy converter that also supports POE+ , some APs for instance Meraki do not support adapters, so POE is only option.
