Flash Light on LightWeight AP?

Eric Hansen

Hello

Is there a way through the wireless contorller(5.2.178.0) to flash the light on a 1250 series lightweight AP that is managed by that controller?

I have about 8 - 9 1250's that got deployed on a 30 foot high ceiling and didnt get their MACs documented or any identification put on them before they were installed. Id like to be able to identify each one without having to take them down(they are in use) or dig up a 30 foot ladder.

thanks

e-

Hi Eric,

Would turning the LED off one by one work?

I'm not sure if this works for the 1250, but maybe you could give it a try;

config ap led-state

To enable or disable the LED-State for an access point, use the config ap led-state command.

config ap led-state {enable | disable} {Cisco_AP | all}

Syntax Description

config

Display configurations.

ap

Advanced parameters.

led-state

Enable or disable the LED-State for an access point.

{enable | disable}

Enable or disable the access point's LED-State.

{Cisco_AP | all}

Name of a Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access point or all to specify all access points.

Hope this helps!

Tested and that will work perfectly.

Hi Eric,

Great stuff! Thanks for letting us know this still works with the 1250 series.

Cheers!

Old thread but for people who want to do it through the GUI

Step 1  Choose Wireless > Access Points > All APs and then the name of the desired access point.
Step 2  Choose the Advanced tab to open the All APs > Details for (Advanced) page.
Step 3  Select the LED state check box.
Step 4  Choose Enable from the drop-down list adjacent to this text box.
Step 5  Click Apply.
