Nothing can see my controller

mvandruff1

Level 1

I have a Cisco WLC 5508 connected to a 24 port Poe switch. Switch is trunked to the router. I have an AIR-AP3802I-B-K9 plugged into the switch and the WLC is on the port right next to it. The ap gets an IP of 10.10.10.4 the WLC wireless interface has an IP of 10.10.10.20 static assigned with a gateway and DHCP of 10.10.10.1. nothing can ping the WLC. The ap can't see it. And the WLC can't ping the gateway or anything else on the subnet. The service port is on a different supernet. I have been trying to get this to work for days I can't figure out what's wrong. Everything is on the same subnet and vlan. Any ideas would be super appreciated. (Ap can ping everything in the subnet)

The port for the WLC is trunked dot1q and set to access all vlans.

what is the version of code running on WLC 5508

configuration should be as below  example  for management interface :

>interface address management 192.168.100.10 255.255.255.0
>interface address management 192.168.100.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.1

can you post below information
>show interface summary

>show sysinfo

what switch model and what IOS code running ?

can you post show run and show vlan  from the switch ?

Make sure they are belong to same VLAN if you are not using default VLAN 1 (this is not suggested most of the time)

AP joining prepwork - NTP, region, License - check the matrix AP and WLC. - additionally - Good Blog for AP joining process :

I'll get all that for ya tomorrow just crawled into bed been messing with it all day haha. I appreciate the info. I'm mildly wondering if it's a speed mismatch now that I think about it.

then we will see next year LoL..

Doesn't seem to be a speed mismatch, i plugged in a gig sfp so now its gig to gig and still same issue the WLC does show finally in CDP neighbors last night i couldn't see it in CDP neighbors when plugged into fa0/7 or fa0/11. but still no ping response from switch to the wlc

for anyone seeing this at a later time dont vlan tag the interface going to the switch in the GUI. I can now ping my APs and the WLC to and from, still having an issue with the AP joining but were working on it

sure that is bit confusing part on VLAN TAG and UNTAG when you configuring WLC using Trunk config - Glad you able to fix that issue.

the best resource i have suggested for AP joining above thread and  also here :  (NTP and region settings, version compatible matrix very important here)

console AP and provide all the output here still have issue AP joining - from AP on to until fails.
