Why would we want to use multiple mobility groups?

Hello, everyone.

The title pretty much explains my question. Why would we want to assign our WLCs to different mobility groups?

Wouldn't it make more sense to use 1 for all of our WLCs so we can achieve seamless roaming everywhere?

Thank you.
David

Mobility meaning wifi client is roaming.

So each wlc group control clients roaming in same site.

This group exchange all clients info like authc method and it wlan spec

Hello @Mitrixsen

By using diferent mobility group, you create a roaming boundary. If a client roams to an AP on a different mobility group, it must reassociate and reauthenticate — which can be intentional.

Also, the way to put WLC on a separate mobility group, this lets you test new firmware, configurations, or AP join behavior without impacting production roaming.

Just to add to the previous answers ... also consider scaling.  Mobility domains share a lot of client data between WLCs.  Too many WLCs/clients is not going to scale well.
