Depends on the uplink used. 

We put ours in the core because we are need 40 Gbps ports and these are found in the core.

Physical Placement can be anywhere, some people due to space place on their own DC on-prem.

as suggested most cases should be connected to the CORE.

its depends on business requirement,. I had few clients can go more and more B/W. so its all requirement.

if you have 10G network suggest to go with 10G network speeds.
