Hi all

I am facing the below issue

RP/0/RSP1/CPU0:ios#admin upgrade hw-module fpd cbc force location 0/1/CPU0 Tue Mar 22 23:15:14.021 UTC

CBC UPGRADE TAKES APPROX. 3 - 5 MINUTES TO COMPLETE

AFTER THE IMAGE IS WRITTEN, THE CBC IS RESET AUTOMATICALLY TO

ACTIVATE THE NEW IMAGE. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED TO ACTIVATE THE NEW

CBC IMAGE. PROGRESS STATUS WILL BE PRINTED APPROX. ONCE EVERY 60 SECONDS.

Continue? [confirm]

FPD upgrade started.

FPD upgrade in progress on some hardware, reload/configuration change on those is not recommended as it might cause HW programming failure and result in RMA of the hardware.

Starting the upgrade/download of following FPD:

=========== ==== ======= ======= =========== =========

                                   Current    Upg/Dng

Location    Type Subtype Upg/Dng   Version    Version

=========== ==== ======= ======= =========== =========

0/1/CPU0    lc   cbc     upg        33.2        33.5

------------------------------------------------------

FPD upgrade sent to location node0_1_CPU0

FPD upgrade completed for location node0_1_CPU0 % Failed to upgrade 1 FPD for A9K-VSM-500 on location 0/1/CPU0

FPD upgrade has ended.

Which IOS XR release is running on the router?

Can you also share the output of "show canbus server-stats location 0/1/CPU0"?

regards,

Aleksandar

Hi Aleksandar

I reloaded the module and it worked

Anyway , what SMUs are really needed to be applied ? or it's version related ?

BR,

Mohammad

hi Mohammad,

SMUs are specific a SW release. For example if we wanted to deliver a SMU for bug CSCxx0000 on 5.3.2 and 5.3.3, we would have to deliver one SMU for 5.3.2 and one for 5.3.3.

If you would like to avoid the hassle of reviewing individual SMUs, you may want to go for Service Packs instead.

I would also recommend to target an Extended Maintenance Release for deployment.

if you want to simplify the task of orchestrating SW update (SP, SMU or new release packages), you can use the CSM Server to help with that.

I'm sharing some URLs you may find relevant.

Hi Aleksandar

I have reloaded the module (through command like) and FPD is upgraded to 33.5

Strange maybe ? :)

BR,

Mohammad

LC reload should be triggered automatically when upgrading FPD (in the future not all FPD upgrades will require a reload). It seems that in this case the automated reset of the board has failed, but the FPD was upgraded. In summary, this is not really an expected behaviour. If the "admin show hw-module fpd" shows that all version are up to date, the VSM should be fine now.

/Aleksandar

Thanks Aleksandar

Did u face some issues when deploying VSM ?

I am facing a lot of drops in the show cgn nat44 nat1 statistics

BR,

Mohammad

hi Mohammad,

I believe you are already discussing this with Nitin in another thread. If this is a separate issue, please let me know.

Aleksandar

Dear Aleksandar

Is there a problem if I upgrade a box from 4.3.2 to 5.3.3 directly ? or will there be any restrictions?

hi Mohammad,

you will find a document that explains migration procedure from various releases to 5.3.3:

Have you added the 5.3.3 k9sec pie to the installation?

Hi Aleksandar

I just added the mini package , should I also include the k9sec package ?

hi Mohammad,

you have two options:

1) if you don't need k9, deactivate the k9 package in 4.3.2 before activating 5.3.3

2) add the 5.3.3 k9 package to the installation

All active packages must be of the same release.

regards,

/Aleksandar

I have removed all packages except for the mini package , then I managed to activate my new software (5.3.3)

Thanks

BR,

Mohammad
