Problem with ncs5500-goldenk9-x-7.6.2-SPGISO0001.tar replacement

Hello everyone,

We have the NCS55A1 router. We tried upgrading with ncs5500-goldenk9-x-7.6.2-SPGISO0001.iso from the IOS-XR 7.4.2 version, but the replacement failed with an "Internal error" message. After that failure, we performed the upgrade with NCS5500-iosxr-k9-7.6.2.tar, and then replacement with ncs5500-goldenk9-x-7.6.2-SPGISO0001.iso. The replacement was successful but "admin show install health" displayed high directory usage:

INFO ********************************************************************************
WARNING XR disk space usage is high at node 0/RP0 for default-sdr
WARNING Please check for following usages
WARNING Directory name:/ and usage is: 82
ERROR Clean up the space for above directories
INFO ********************************************************************************

After "install remove inactive all" some packages still persist and can't be removed:

4 inactive package(s) found:
systemd-244.5-r0.xr
ncs5500-spirit-boot-2.0.0.0-r762
sudo-1.8.32-r0.xr
kernel-image-bzimage-5.4.142-yocto-standard-5.4.142+git0+719be4bd6c_108b8b-r0.xr

I have some questions if someone can help.

1. Is it possible to perform the upgrade (replacement) with the GISO version different from the currently running IOS-XR version at all, or the GISO version must match the currently running IOS-XR version?

2. How can we resolve the problem with "ERROR Clean up the space", and how to remove inactive packages? The harddisk: has 18692004 kbytes free.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello @miljankostadinovic ,

Hope you are doing well.

Reading your topic -
1. Is it possible to perform the upgrade (replacement) with the GISO version different from the currently running IOS-XR version at all, or the GISO version must match the currently running IOS-XR version?

>>> Yes. From field experience I've performed upgrade with GISO image from 6.6.3 to 7.5.2. In some cases, it's not possible, it depends of the NCS 5500 platform and some SMUs might be needed.

2. How can we resolve the problem with "ERROR Clean up the space", and how to remove inactive packages? The harddisk: has 18692004 kbytes free.
>>> I see you've performed install remove inactive all. I'm wondering if you've performed it from both XR and admin mode.

Please let me know it it helps you.

Have a wonderful day.

Kind Regards,

Hello @ANP ,

Thank you for your response. Yes, we tried to remove it in both modes:

So, in both modes, the "show install health" show the same:

I'm wondering if there is another way to free-up the space and solve the problem.
