hi team,
in another community post (Webex Control Hub Updates and Migrations tools - quick overview), a quick overview of various tools (that appear under ''Updates & Migrations'' Control Hub section) was provided.
In this community post, we will doubleclick a bit on the ''Migrate Calling from UCM platforms to Cisco Webex Calling'' tool.
As name implies this tool is applicable for CUCM customers that move to Webex Calling solution.
In summary, this tool takes care of phone migration, onboarding to WxC, associated devices to users and workspaces, assigning licenses to users and workspaces, adding primary extension and TN, adding users and workspaces in desired WxC Location, etc.
First thing, I would like to share is this great video from my colleague, Kasey King, that shows tool in great detail:
Updates and Migrations - Migrate UCM Calling Platforms to Webex Calling - vidcast
A nice thing that Kasey does, in this video, is that he shows the actual IPPhones during the whole process - which is extremely helpful!
There is also this related help article: https://help.webex.com/en-us/article/x974bd/Migrate-Unified-CM-to-Webex
but, at the moment, this help article is missing a lot of useful aspects (especially section related to CCUC and auto phone migration). Relevant team is checking this.
Let's have a quick overview of the steps involved (as you can see from above video):
1) You import a tar file from your CUCM.
2) Based on the tar file, tool finds users and devices and other related info (primary lines, E.164 numbers, CUCM Device pool that devices belong, etc.).
3) Although you import a CUCM's tar file, tool gives you great flexibility to select which parts of CUCM you want to migrate.
As you can see in the video, you can make this selection at various levels: which device pools, which DNs/E.164 numbers, which users and which non-user-associated devices, etc. This is great for phased migrations.
4) Apart from selecting what part you will migrate, tool allows you to define certain parameters during the tool's wizard. So you could correct or add some parameters before import to CUCM. For example, you will see in the video that Kasey added manually a E.164 Phone number for a specific user.
5) During the whole process and after data import, tool runs a phone migration eligibility report, in order to check if IPPhones in question are eligible to be imported in Webex Calling solution.
Note that this eligibility check could be done as part of this tool, but, usually you would like to run this in earlier phase (for that you can use process described here --> Checking ENT to MPP Phone migration eligibility in Webex Control Hub)
So when you run this tool, you already know what to expect in terms of phone eligibility.
6) After you do all the selection and optional data changes, then tool will ask you to review and then you can select ''prepare for migration''. This will create a task that will start running and you will see this screen:
As you can see from the message, this is NOT the actual migration but tool prepares data to be imported in Webex Calling solution at later step.
In task manager, ''ready for migration'' when this task is completed.
So, in other words, for the moment, IPPhones on CUCM will not be affected.
But note that tool will add devices in Webex Calling with a status unavailable :
and will also assign Webex Calling licenses to selected users.
Please pay extra attention to this point:
although CUCM IPPhones are not affected at this stage, users that use webex app will see Webex Calling services inside Webex app.
7) Now when you are ready for the actual phone migration then you can select ''Complete Migration'' and migration will start immediately.
Now, If you have CCUC then actual ENT to MPP phone migration can be done in automated mode (Auto Complete option).
If CUCC is not present, then you have to do it manually, so strongly suggest to have CUCC to allow to do things for you.
(Unfortunately this optional prerequisite (configure CCUC for your CUCM) is not listed in the Control Hub prerequisties section of this tool).
Note that if you have CCUC, you can ignore also the prerequisite that states: ''Ensure all Phone Load versions are 14.1(1) or higher''.
Since if you have CUCC and select the ''Auto Complete'' option then CUCC will take care of this.
So you don't have to bother about firmware (ENT or MPP), etc.
10)
This tool does not handle share lines, speed dials or other features.
For these, check the ''Migrate features from CUCM tool'':
