I see here that the "Maximum number of agents per team" is 50 with UCCX.
So for example let's say I have a CSQ with 90 agents and 10 supervisor/agents (that will never, ever gain another agent :) that (as far as the business is concerned) is a single team. However in UCCX I can't simply make them a single team. Instead I would solve this with this configuration:
- Put 50 of the agents in TeamA
- Put 50 of the agents in TeamB
- Supervisors would belong to TeamA (AFAIK it doesn't really matter which team they're a member of)
- Supervisors would be supervisors of TeamA and TeamB
Assuming I haven't edited my XML layout (or edited it correctly as described here) in Finesse the only way my supervisors would even be aware of the TeamA/TeamB split is on the "Manage Team" Finesse tab. Here they would have to flip back and forth (via the team drop down) between the two teams in order to change agent states. Not ideal, but with the 50 member per team limit that's the best we can do.
Is there a better solution out there I haven't thought of?

AFAIK, your proposed solution is the only applicable solution out of the box, I've run into similar situation before and did exact same thing.
