My company is upgrading our Infrastructure in the near future and we have been planning/strategizing/talking with vendors of going to CUCM 11.5 and PCCE 11.6. We heard that if you go to PCCE 11.6 you need CUCM v12; is this true?
If we stay at PCCE 11.5 and eventually want to go to a global or multi PG deployment model at some point, will it be a huge effort to get there. Should we just take the leap and go to PCCE 11.6/CUCM v12. We also heard CUCM v12 isn't compatible with 79XX phones and we would have to upgrade those too.
Currently we are at 8.6 CUCM / UCCX 8.5,

I'm personally not aware of that requirement, the compatibility guide (while focused on UCCE, should hold true for PCCE) has a lot of information on this but you don't have to run UCM 12.

Yes, its always recommended to move with the latest, stable version while you do any new or upgrade installations. You are right, certain 7900 phones are deprecated from CUCM 11 and 12 on wards.
Deprecated Phone Models for Cisco Unified Communications Manager 12.0
As of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Firmware Release 12.0, the following phones are not supported:
As of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Firmware Release 11.5, the following phones are not supported:
If you use any of these phone models on an older release of Cisco Unified Communications Manager and you upgrade to Release 12.0, the phone will not work after the upgrade completes.
Hope this Helps

One of the two PCCE deployments I currently support is PCCE 11.6(1) and CUCM 10.5.
So I can confirm that CUCM 12.x let alone 11.x is not a requirement.

The word on the street is to avoid UCM 12.x

Geoff, do you say this due to issues/defects, some of the new licensing system/Smart Licensing requirements or multiple reasons? Just curious.

I heard scuttlebutt that the 11.5(1) version was more "stable" than the new 12.0(1) version. It was mentioned that it's often the case that the xx.5 series is more stable than the xx.0 series. New features added to xx.0 series take a while in the field before all side effects are revealed. 12.5 would have all of those fixed, in my opinion. Look at the long life of UCCE 8.5 and UCCE 10.5.

I completely agree. My personal take is, I never suggest or upgrade any UC products that has just came out with the dot Zero version (the great dot zero myth). I personally do not install this as we can say somehow that these versions are kind of a beta versions and should wait for the next dot One or dot Five SU versions.
Hope this Helps
