Unable to get Twitter Stream working in SocialMiner

I've had this working in the past but recently the Twitter Stream stopped working in SocialMiner 8.5(3).  I can create a Twitter Stream but when I add it to Campaigns the state "Twitter Stream read error.  Last successful fetch time was NEVER, Success rate is 0%"  I don't see anything was changed, DNS is working, username/password for the Twitter Stream is correct, I just can't seem to figure out what the issue is.  What specific logs can I look at to determine the issue?

Thanks

Travis

Hi Travis,

I also experience the same behavior.

On the Cisco Developer Network (CDN) there's explanation in this thread:

http://developer.cisco.com/web/socialminer/forums/-/message_boards/view_message/4582459

In brief Twitter changed the api to use https instead of http (https://dev.twitter.com/blog/streaming-api-turning-ssl-only-september-29th); SocialMiner 8.5(4) (which will probably be available at the end of this month) will fix this.

I have the same problem in my lab, maybe Twitter changed something in their API. Something like Facebook did some time ago.

Anyone from Cisco know if there was a change in Twitter's API or what might cause this issue?

Also have the same issue. Did you manage to get a resolution or anything from Cisco?

Eric, thanks for the post.

So Twitter posted the annoucnment that on Sept. 29th they would be changing yet no post or fix from Cisco?  It's going to take a month to a fix for this, that's pretty disappointing.  Glad to see they are paying attention to their products.

Travis

It depends if you are using it in production or just in your lab. If it is production open a sev 1 TAC case and your get an ES. If, like me its just NFR lab you will have to sit back and wait for the next SU. :-(

8.5(4) coming soon....but in mean time can you explain why you need a Twitter stream feed?

We've found very very few cases where you would need to use a Twitter Stream feed over using a search result (RSS) from Twitter.  The search interface to Twitter is much more powerful (feature-rich) then the stream interface.

I need to demo to my President and Vice President.  I upgraded to 8.5(3) to get to XMPP feature but can't get that to work either.  We are a CC ATP and see the need for this so the powers that be asked to for a demo but I can't get it going now.

I'll look into the search results to see if that can meet the requirements for now.

Thanks Tod

@travis

Have you tried google chat?  I have a system set up with google chat XMPP so I know that works (my other system is using webex connect.  I don't have one set up with CUP at this time.)

Create a gmail account.

The SocialMiner settings are:

Yes

Enable Service Lookup:            Yes

gmail.com

yourusername@gmail.com

Password: *******

Again, SocialMiner should work with CUP as well and TAC should be able to start troubleshooting process on that but if you just want to get the XMPP working then you can see how that works with Google chat (also note: getting it to work with google may help narrow the issue with CUP.)

Hi Famous,

In my case just trying out the NFR kit, and discovering SocialMiner. No big deal for me to wait for the fix.

Regards, Eric

Cisco SocialMiner 8.5(4) is now posted on Cisco.com.

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/SocialMiner

It corrects this issue.  Let us know if you have any issues with 8.5(4).

Installing right now, thanks Tod!

8.5(4) fixed the twitter stream but still no luck with XMPP.  Google chat worked but not CUPS, oh well.

Thanks
