Does Nexus 93180YC-EX NX-OS support 100Mb port speeds?

We recently have purchased Nexus 93180YC-EX switches and require to use 100Mb port speed with the GLC-TE transceivers. The data sheet doesn't mention this switch can support 100Mb port. However another cisco discussion indicates it may be supported? - https://community.cisco.com/t5/application-centric/nexus-93180yc-ex-100mb-on-aci-vs-nx-os/td-p/3819462

Can someone please confirm if I can use GLC-TE and set the port to 100Mb speed?

Hi @Madura Malwatte

Nexus 93180YC-EX does not support 100MB port speed. Reference: https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/nexus-9300-10GE-fiber-switches-comparison.html

You can also confirm that by using command:

show interface eth x/y capabilities

Here are all Nexus 9300 models which supports 100M:

Hi,

maybe it's not written in documentation, but look at the output of your provided command:

sh int e1/14 capabilities
Ethernet1/14
Model: N9K-C93180YC-EX
Type (SFP capable): 10Gbase-(unknown)
Speed: 100,1000,10000,25000

According this output, it should be possible, but I don't have it verified.

I found this:

100mb optics, such as the GLC-TE, are supported in 100mb speed only on -EX and -FX switches, such as the N9K-C93180YC-EX and N9K-C93180YC-FX switches, and only on front panel ports 1/1-48. 100mb optics are not supported any other switches. 100mb optics cannot be used on EX or FX leaf switches on port profile converted downlink ports (1/49-52) using QSA.

Hi @MV_SK

Then I stand corrected

If the capabilities command says it supports 100M, then it does.Indeed, I double checked it in my lab as well (should have done it before responding :)) and it lists 100M as well:

# show int e 1/1 capabilities
Ethernet1/1
  Model: N9K-C93180YC-FX
  Type (SFP capable): 10Gbase-(unknown)
  Speed: 100,1000,10000,25000

Thanks for bringing it up!

Cheers,

Sergiu

hi team, so the nexus N9K-C93180YC-FX supports speeds of 100Mbps, I have a client who is migrating equipment and has 4 ports at 100mbps, all the others are in Fiber SFP/SFP+, Does anyone in practice have it connected with GLC-TE transceivers and that support 100Mbps speed?

Hi, we have the same issue with our  N9K-C93180YC-FX, we tried with GLC-TE and even with GLC-T supposed to be 10/100/1000. Inserting to the Nexus, we saw terminal log saying :

%ETHPORT-5-IF_HARDWARE: Interface Ethernet1/36, hardware type changed to 1G

But transceiver type showing 100Mbit/sec

Connecting 100MB device to this port, the port still down, even if you force speed to 100MB

Any advise ?

Best regards

Belmar

Hi,

I found the solution.

- Remove the GLC-T from the interface

- Reset the interface to the default

- Reconfigure the interface with the access vlan and force the speed to 100 MB

- No shut and insert SFP GLC-T and connect your device

- Ping the device from your Nexus and its works for me

Best regards
