Can anyone tell me the difference between cme, cme-srst and uck9.

I have cisco router 2951 and its connected with CUCM 7.1 and gateway protocol is H323.

"flash0:c2951-universalk9-mz.SPA.150-1.M1.bin"

uc            uck9          Permanent     uck9

router#sh license feature

Feature name             Enforcement  Evaluation  Subscription   Enabled

ipbasek9                 no           no          no             yes

securityk9               yes          yes         no             no

uck9                     yes          yes         no             yes

How can i know that my router is working as cme or cme-srst? Do i need to install cme or cme-srst ??

Hello,

The new IOS is only one image , not like the 12.X , if you have the required license then the function will work.

The difference between CME , CME-SRST and UC are :

1- CME : CME is the call manager express where your ip phones can directly be connected to the router.

2- CME-SRST: this means that the router is working as a SRST router but with CME funcinality (hunts , EM , etc..)

3- UC : means that the gateway is a voice gateway that you can configure SIP , H.323 or MGCP gateway but you have to know that beside this you can configure it as CME .

if you want to check if the CME is working , type show telephony-service

Amer

if i have uck9 license installed on my router then it means its working as Gateway. It is also working as CME if i will enable telephony-service command in this router.

Now if i want to install cme-srst then do i need to install license for this?

To check CME-SRST licensing use the command: show license detail cme-srst

You may need to sign the EULA using license accept end user agreement at the config prompt.

Check this link for more information and other considerations:

Hi omerpal1190,

Same problem for me...

In the WilliamBell's link, we can see this :

Prerequisites

UCK9 license

ISR G2 already accepts UC CLIs

CME-SRST feature must be configured

SUMMARY STEPS

1. show license detail cme-srst

2. configure terminal

3. license accept end user agreement

4. exit

5. show license detail cme-srst

6. write mem

I do have UCK9 license, I have telephony-service running, I thaught I had CME-SRST feature configured (srst mode auto-provision all).

In my show license, I can not see any cme-srst line...

CUCME#sh lic det cme-srst

% Error: No license for cme-srst found - License feature not found

Did you finally succeed ? Any idea...?

Best regards,

Thomas TORTELIER

I am kinda running into a similar situation.

I have a 3900 Gateway (H323) setup as a SRST Gateway in a CUCM Environment. I have a Permanent UCK9 Lic. Does this entitle me to the normal SRST (Callmanager-fallback)?

Licensing functionality is working as per design."CME / SRST licenses  are honor based and hence you have to just accept the EULA. After the  60 days of evaluation the license will change to "right to use" for 12  years. With the new IOS , we have changed this behavior and it will say "  permanent" instead of 12 years. The output also indicates "Transition  Date" whereas before it used to be "Expiry Date"

The  Eval license automatically rolls over into Right to use license after  60 days of evaluation period. No further intervention is required for  this rollover to happen.

Only certain versions of IOS support the cme-srst feature license. We recently ran into a problem with a group of new 3945 IS Routers we installed. We found that when running the show license detail cme-srst command that we also were getting the "% Error: No license for cme-srst found - License feature not found" message. After reading some Cisco documentation we found that there were certain IOS releases we needed to be at to support the cme-srst feature license. We upgraded one router from 15.0(1)M3 to 15.1(4)M3 and then found that we had the feature license and were able to accept the EULA. Be wary however, we found out yesterday that the Cisco documentation is incorrect. In the "Software Activation on Cisco Integrated Services Routers and Cisco Integrated Service Routers Generation 2" document it states,

"Starting with Cisco IOS Releases 15.0(1)M6, 15.1(1)T4, 15.1(2)T4, 15.1(3)T2, and 15.1(4)M, Evaluation licenses are replaced with Evaluation Right To Use licenses. Evaluation Right to Use licenses automatically become Right to Use licenses after the initial evaluation period. Follow the steps detailed in this section to activate an Evaluation Right to Use license."

We found last night, and Cisco has confirmed, that this is incorrect. We upgraded a 3945 IS router last night to IOS 15.1(2)T4 and still did not have the cme-srst feature license. Cisco tried in their lab and found the same thing. They have acknowledged that the document is incorrect. If you have a lab, test your IOS versions first to see if when you run the show license detail cme-srst command that you see something like the following:

ROUTER#sh license detail cme-srst

Feature: cme-srst Period left: 8  weeks 4  days

     Index: 1        Feature: cme-srst                          Version: 1.0

        License Type: EvalRightToUse

License State: Not in Use, EULA not accepted

Evaluation total period: 8  weeks 4  days

Evaluation period left: 8  weeks 4  days

Period used: 0  minute  0  second

        License Count: 0/0  (In-use/Violation)

        License Priority: None

        Store Index: 7

        Store Name: Built-In License Storage

Notice that this indicates that the EULA has not been accepted but that the feature does exist. Once you accept the EULA it will look something like this:

     ROUTER#sh license detail cme-srst

Feature: cme-srst                        Period left: 8  weeks 3  days

     Index: 1        Feature: cme-srst                          Version: 1.0

        License Type: EvalRightToUse

        License State: Active, In Use

Evaluation total period: 8  weeks 4  days

Evaluation period left: 8  weeks 3  days

Period used: 0  minute  22 seconds

            Transition date: Apr 24 2012 17:27:13

        License Count: 23/0  (In-use/Violation)

        License Priority: Low

        Store Index: 7

        Store Name: Built-In License Storage

Notice how the 60-day evaluation has started counting down. The evaluation only starts ticking if you have the telephony-service command active on the router. Once the 60 day evaluation runs out it is an "on your honor" license type where you should have purchased licensing for cme-srst but there is no license PAK that gets installed on the router.
