Hi I have read the following post ( https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/1238164#1238164
) we are replacing analogue phones with Cisco phones. Some places have a external bell connected to the phone so they can hear it ring outside the office etc. According to various posts on the net it is possibe to do this with a ATA and it sounds a good idea. However i am unable to get a external bell to work on a ATA. I have set a test ATA up and it works ok with a analogue phone but the bell wont work. If i try the bell back in a analogue line it works ok so i know the bell is ok. Is there anything that needs to be changed on the ATA, router or in Cisco call manager for this to work ? If it helps i am in the UK and i know there is a difference between wiring etc so wondered if the ATA needs a ring wire or something ?
Thanks

I have exactly the same issue. Has anyone got this to work using ATA with an external bell

Yes, I've got Doro Ring Plus units to work with no issues with an ATA.
This was on CUCME however, I can't think of any reasons why it wouldn't work.
From memory we had to ensure that the UK locale was enabled on the ATA/line to ensure we got the correct ring (dual rings) but other than that everything worked ok.

How old is the external bell? It may be that the ATA does not supply enough ring voltage. I'm not sure what the specs are on the ATA, but a POTS line generates ~ 90VAC. I would imagine an older external ringer would probably be finicky about ring voltage, but thats just a hunch.
