Hello,
I have a CUCM6BE implementation that uses 2800 routers as Voice Gateways to the PSTN.
The customer has an overhead paging system that consists of a analog 600ohm input to an amplifier which then connects to speakers. The previous PBX had a physical paging port which connected to the amp input.
I need to implement the paging system to the 2800 VGW.
I have found a document that describes the use of E&M for overhead paging. Is it possible to connect the 600ohm analog input directly to pins 4&5 of the E&M port, and then to call this port to access paging?
(Note: There is a PAM10 buffer/filter in front of the amp's input)
Does anyone know if this is possible, using FXS (ideal) or E&M VWICS? Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards
Richard

Somebody post a solution in this forum several years ago. Use a cheap IP phone and configure auto-answer to headset or speaker. Find the audio cable of headset or speaker. Connect the audio cable to your amplifier. That is it.
Hope this helps.

Hi Richard,
FXS or E&M should work nicely in this setup. Here is a good doc I received from Paolo;
Using Analogue E&M Ports to Interface to Overhead Paging Systems
http://cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk653/technologies_configuration_example09186a008015094e.shtml
Or something like this with an FXS Port would also work well;

Hope this helps!

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the quick response and info.
The document describes the paging system having a switching pair (ie. push to talk). In my case the paging system is simply an analogue output.
I have tried connecting this to an FXS port and the port immediately goes off hook and it is not possible to call it.
I was hoping that by connecting it directly to port 4&5 the port could be set to auto answer and connect the speech path.
Do you know if this is possible?

Richard

Hi Richard,
Lets forget about the E&M for a moment :) If you look at the "Loop Start" section of this doc;
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/cam-electronics/TAMBm.pdf
You will see that the TAMB answers the call via FXS on T&R and then bridges the audio across to the Paging Amp on dedicated pairs. You will need this mid-point device. I have worked with others who have successfully used this product.
Hope this helps!

Hi Rob and 4bwu,
Thanks very much for the advice.
As the customer already has some spare IP phones I am going to try the headset port option but if this is not suitable I will suggest that the customer purchases a TAMB unit.

You can also use this Valcom V-9940 and a Small Valcom power supply.
http://www.valcom.com/v-9940.htm
It will connect by FXS or FXO port and will give you a 600 or 8 ohm output.
It also supports loop supervision.
