SCCP support for 6921/6941/6945 in CME 9.X

Hello All

I am trying to clarify if 6921 et all phones support the sccp protocol in ucme 9.x.

From the ucme administration guide it mention support for these phones via sip and doesn't mention sccp.

Cisco Unified CME 8.8 and later versions support the following phones:

• Cisco Unified 3905 SIP IP Phones, page 189

• Cisco Unified 6901 and 6911 SIP IP Phones, page 190

• Cisco Unified 6921, 6941, 6945, and 6961 SIP IP Phones, page 192

• Cisco Unified 8941 and 8945 SIP IP Phones, page 193

• Cisco Unified 6945, 8941, and 8945 SCCP IP Phones, page 195

Does this mean addition to SCCP.

From the compatibility matrix

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme91spc.html

SCCP load files are listed for these phone.

Am I right in thinking that sccp load is supported for the 6921/41/45 albeit that the admin guide only mentions the SIP version as SCCP is a given?

Also can I now configure these phones as dual-line?

Thanks

Feisal

Hi Feisal,

Only the 6945 has SCCP support in any current version of CME. The

6921 & 6941 are SIP only. You can see the version add-on history here

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeroad.html

Cheers!

Mmmmm.. This is a bit strange

I've just checked on a CME 8.1 system

Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
NETI-VGW01(config)#ephone 1
NETI-VGW01(config-ephone)#type 69?
6901  6911  6921  6941
6961

Suggests it should work via SCCP...? Interesting that is seems to support SCCP for everything but the 6945!

I haven't actually tested any of this with a handset however.

Edit:

Just configured this, and it didn't moan.

No, they are SCCP too (luckly).

Hey folks,

Barry & Paolo ...thanks for correcting my "useless' info...my BAD! You are both correct

and the SCCP support appears to have been added for these models in CME 8.0

+5 to both of you!

I'm an idiot Sorry Feisal.

Cheers!

Thanks guys. Opened a PDI case as I wasn't convinced by the docs. This is what the helpdesk have written:

Yes, 69xx phones are supported with CME 9.x as both SIP & SCCP phone.

About, dual-line support with 6921, there has been a development going on for making it available & now I see some good news here with CME 9.x. However, I need to double check if the code changes are confirmed done with CME 9.0 or it needs an IOS upgrade.

Thanks

Hi Paolo,

Thanks for your very kind words my friend You've provided the second

part to this famous quote, while I provided the first part;

I truly appreciate your sentiments here........you ROCK!

I'm afraid that there is no good news, as I've just tested this with CME 9.0 and 9.1, and in both cases it is not possible to place a call on hold, and make a new call from the same line. However, when on a call, it is possible to receive a new one, with call waiting. Phone was a 7941 with firmware 9.3.1.3

It would help if you could obtain more details about the code change mentioned above.

Further info from PDI

"

I heard from CCME BU & following is what they say..

Multiple calls per line feature in SCCP mode require SCCP version 21 support.

We only support sccp version 17 today in CME hence it is not a supported feature with CME."

Thanks

Feisal

Does this mean that the 6921 cannot do the following:

1. Transfer

2. Conferencing

If so, I hope the pre-sales person has explained this to the customer.

Is there a workaround for the above using 6921 phones?

Thanks

Feisal

There is no problem in doing these two functions. The problem is only doing a new call with a call on hold. So one need to configure additional DN, fortunately the phone have multiple buttons.

Thanks for relaying what Cisco is not telling publicily - a field notice should be done. It is a typical Cisco messup, and I have doubts it will be ever be fixed.

We had this issue with a CUCM 9.1 and 6945 as a sip phone. We erased the phone and created it as sccp, problem solved
