Hi Zeinab,
In simple language we can explain SIP 183 message as a Provisional Ack message for a call which is still being set up.
.
If we recieve a Session progress 183, then the media will start flowing from the farend to our side and vice verca.
If you make a call from your side to the PSTN, then , There will be an
Originating Terminating
Gateway Gateway
--------------------------------->
INVITE
<---------------------------------
100 Trying
<------------------------------------
183 Session Progress (One way SDP)
<========================
One way voice path
<------------------------------------
200 OK
------------------------------------>
ACK
<========================
Two Way Voice Path
then we get Bye, Release, Release complete, and then 200 OK .
hope this helps.

Abdul Sattar
