N7710 Fan Module

Hi

There are two types of FAN for N7710:

N77-C7710-FAN

N77-C7710-FAN-2

Is there any consideration or restriction for choosing the second generation regarding FAB/SE/cards. This model is not available in Power Calculation tool...

Use the Gen 2 fan trays for Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) compliance when the N77-M312CQ-26L or the N77-F430CQ-36 is installed in the switch.

Also, note that:

The switch shuts down if a mix of Gen 1 (N77-C7710-FAN) and Gen 2 (N77-C7710-FAN-2) fan trays are present in the same switch for more than 21600 seconds (6 hours). The syslog message "PLATFORM-0-FAN_MISMATCH_TIME: Mismatch of Fan modules. Both Gen1 and Gen2 fans are present in the fantray for <number> seconds" is displayed at regular intervals when both Gen 1 and Gen 2 fan trays are present in the same switch.

Thank you for clarifications

So if I chose M3 12x100GE, then I must choose FAN2, Right?

By the way I try the confguration in Cisco Configurator site. It accepted M3 12x100GE with FAN 1st Generation so what is the correct option?

M3 12x100GE with 3xFAN or M3 12x100GE with 3x FAN2?

Based on the following note:

Standard fan trays are included as part of the Nexus 7700 2-, 6-, 10-, and 18-slot chassis. The Nexus 7700 6-, 10-, and 18-slot chassis also support optional generation 2 fan trays. All fan trays provide NEBS compliance in combination with the rest of the components of the chassis for specific system configurations. Additionally, the generation 2 fan trays provide NEBS Level-3 acoustic compliance and short term operation at 55C for the Nexus 7700 6-, 10-, and 18-slot chassis if configured with the Nexus 7700 M3 100G I/O modules or future I/O modules.

My understanding is that GEN2 is not a requirement, but if you want to be NEBS compliant with M3 100G modules (or future I/O modules) you should go with Gen2 fans. I would go for Gen2 as they are future proof.  Basically this means option M3 12x100GE with 3x FAN2.
