Hello,

I'm experiencing some problems with Fax on ATA. So, I'm looking on the gateway if there is any errors and I found errored secs on the E1 controller :

E1 1/0 is up.

Applique type is Channelized E1 - balanced

No alarms detected.

alarm-trigger is not set

Version info Firmware: 20030807, FPGA: 11

Framing is NO-CRC4, Line Code is HDB3, Clock Source is Line.

CRC Threshold is 320. Reported from firmware is 0.

Data in current interval (216 seconds elapsed):

0 Line Code Violations, 0 Path Code Violations

26 Slip Secs, 0 Fr Loss Secs, 0 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins

26 Errored Secs, 0 Bursty Err Secs, 0 Severely Err Secs, 0 Unavail Secs

What does it means ?

If someone have a typical E1 gateway configuration for belgium, I would be interested ...

Here is the configuration of my E1 controller :

controller E1 1/0

framing NO-CRC4

pri-group timeslots 1-31

interface Serial1/0:15

no ip address

no logging event link-status

isdn switch-type primary-net5

isdn incoming-voice voice

no cdp enable

Thanx

Hi,

Slips or clocking errors on the controller can cause all kind of audio issues and faxes failures.

You need to set the following commands

globally if they are not there yet:

network-clock-participate slot 1

network-clock-select 1 e1 1/0

After you set the commands, do clear counters and check the controller

again for any errors.

Hope it helps..

Hi,

I assume you have a 26xx with a Voice AIM card.

this was a problem with early 12.2 IOS best to upgrade the IOS to latest 12.2(15)T.

then you don't need the commands above.

Hi, I running 12.3(11)T2 on a 2651XM router and was getting a bunch of slip seconds. I added the following config statements as mentioned in the previous post:

network-clock-participate wic 0

network-clock-select 1 T1 0/0

Now all the slip second errors are gone and my faxes are coming and going without dropped data. Heehaw, great fix.

Thanks for posting the solution!

Tom.

Just for the record, here is a good tech note that explains about the different clocking options on the different platforms:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_tech_note09186a008031a072.shtml

I don't know if they could have made this clocking stuff more complicated if they had tried!
