Paging with CUCM

Hello Dears,

I want to build new paging system integrated with CUCM.

I have many queries related to that:

1) Which phone models support paging ?

2) Does paging support analog speakers ?

3) If i want to user intercom on the door, can i control it using the paging ?

Thanks,

CUCM does not provide IP Phone paging natively. Look at Syn-Apps SA-Announce or Singlewire Informacast to fill this role. Their product documentation will also answer which phone models are supported.

If you only need overhead paging then it’s merely a matter of connecting the paging amplifier to an FXS or FXO analog port on a voice gateway and assigning it an extension.

Hi Jonathan,

I thought that "Basic" phone to phone paging was available as stated here:

https://www.singlewire.com/blog/informacast/basic-paging-cisco-unified

And here:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/unified-communications/paging-server/117059-configure-informacast-00.html

This doesn't provide traditional "overhead" paging that legacy telco environments are used to but may suffice for some environments.

Yep. That is SingleWire Informacast, not CUCM though.

Right.  It's definitely not native to CUCM.  Is that a free download from Cisco.com for Basic functionality?

This is the link that sounds like it:

Description:

Cisco Paging Server upgrade from 11.5.x. Versions previous to 11.5.1 will need to upgrade to 11.5.1."

They have the OVA download hiding under Unified Communications > Telephony Extensions > Paging Server

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284724367&softwareid=282074295&release=12.0(1)&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Cisco Paging Server = Singlewire InformaCast

right ?

If you look at this product page - you'll see the answer to your question. : )

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/unified-communications/paging-server/index.html

I was able to integrate it into my lab and test it successfully. My reluctance is with having to enable multicast end to end.

Are most enterprises using multicast for overhead paging still? : ) I've been UCS / virtualization / data center focused for the last 4-5 years and focusing back on IPT in my new role.

You need to enable Multicast as far as I know.

However it seems that you can register phones to Informacast and it will register the phones and will send paging data over http/https to them..
