It was recommended by a cisco reseller to failover the supervisor modules every so often to ensure redundancy but i can't find the documentation that supports this nor anyone else doing it.

Sup redundancy and fail over testing should be done during the testing phase of the equipment and/or after major IOS upgrade to make sure it actually works.  Once it has been determined that it works with no issue, there is no need to do it every so often.

Hi netsquant,
You dont failover them unless you are testing the same in a scheduled test case scenario.
You can check the status regularly using the gold feature general online diagnostics feature however as a best practise.

"hw-module module reset" is the command to reload a line card remotely.   This is just like pulling out the line card.  Very "rough" way of doing things.

If you want to test the redundancy, then the command "redundancy force-switchover" could be what you are looking for.
