I was looking through the downloads section and noticed that IOS-XE 17.12.4 is now suggested for install on the 9407R Supervisor Engine-1.
I also noticed that in the software on chassis section it only suggests 17.9.5.
Anyone know why this is or what the difference in terminology is?
When I upgraded to 17.9.4 there is no differentiation anywhere between the SUP and Software on Chassis. Aren't they the same thing?

For production i still suggest 17.9.5 and stable working, But if you enocuntered any big and TAC suggesting 17.12.X you can go for that verision, if not i would not suggest you to become Cisco Lab device to engage with TAC for the issues.

17.3.X, 17.6.X 17.9.X are not stable releases.
17.12.3 seems to be a lot more stable. (Currently testing 17.12.4.)

17.9.X isn't stable?
Why is it the suggested version?
A couple months back 17.9.4a was the suggested version.
Also, just wondering why cisco has 2 different suggested version for the 9407R one for the software on chassis and one for the supervisor.
Thanks

I would never use 17.9.X in a core network much alone a chassis like a 9400/9600.

A "star" release is not the same as a "Safe Harbor" release. A "star" release is just for show.
I will always pick a version if it was "Safe Harbor" but I would never pick a version just because it is a "star" release because I have witnessed several "star" releases which trigger bugs and crashes on platforms without any config.

My view :
Different engineers have different experience in the version of CODE, Some have good experience in the latest code cisco released,. some have very bad experience - these all based on what kind of environment and what features they using.
Only cisco BU/TAC have visibility what kind of issue they are logged based on the version. - i believe based on that condition they going to mention what STAR is - this is my view again.
But personally i always avoid Latest Code running in production environment with critical services.
