Clearing MAC Address from Table to Resolve Network Issues

Hello,

I had an interesting issue today that I resolved but I don't really understand why it worked. We had a network outage last night but all of our equipment stayed up except for a handful of network printers. All the ports showed activity with no errors and I confirmed they were on the proper VLAN. I tried rebooting the print server/printers with no avail. Finally, I cleared the mac addresses from the particular printers and they came online. Any ideas what could have caused this to happen or how I could prevent it next time?
