i have 2 6509 switches configured with VSS (distribution) and i want to connect the edge switches (3560) with multichassin etherchannel (2 uplinks) but when i type #show etherchannel port-channel command on the 3560 switch all i get is zero values index 0 & 0 ,load 00 & 00 ,no of bits 0 & 0
and it is configured with LACP and all ports match , is this a bug or what ????
interestingly when i type #show etherchannel port-channel on the distribution switch (2 * 6509 with vss ) it seem working and load is 55 & AA , index is 0 , 1 and every thing work normaly
please help as i donot know if i can use multichassis etherchannel ?????

Hi Ahmed,
Multichassis EtherChannel (MEC) is not supported on 3560 series switches. It is only supported on 3750 series switches.

thx reza for ur response
to be clear iam configuring MEC on the 2 6509 switches VSS and normal etherchannel on the otherside where 3560 switch exist
so iam not configuring MEC on 3560
so what do u mean by MEC is not supported in 3560 ????????

Ahmed,
If you have 2 3560 switches and are trying to build an EtherChanned using both 3560s to the VSS pair, it is not going to work, because 3560s are not stack able, however if you had 2 3750s and trying to do the same it will work, since the 3750s are stack able. So, since the 3750s are stack able MEC or cross stack EtherChannel is possible but not with 3560s. If you only have one 3560 then yes, you can simply build an EtherChanned from one 3560 to the VSS pair.

my design is to connect one switch 3560 with 2 uplinks to the (2 6509 switches which is logically one using vss) for redundancy each link will be connected to (one chass 6509)
the etherchannel is up and ports are bundeled but the #show etherchannel port-channel results zeroes for example the index for both ports is 0 which is should be 0 for port and 1 for another port
and the load should be AA for one port and 55 for the other port
but the load is 00 for both ports bundeled in the etherchannel
and really thx for ur help and fast response

Are you using 10Gig for your uplinks from the 3560s to the VSS pair?
If yes, are you connecting the uplinks to the Sup-720-VS on the 6500s or line cards?\
Is VSS up and running?

VSS up and running and the uplinks from the 3560 is 1 G to modules 1 G in the VSS pair
the etherchannel is up and i can connect from 3560 to the VSS pairs but i donot understand why the show etherchannel port-channel on 3560 gives zero results
but when i type #show etherchannel portchannel on the VSS pair i see every thing normal for example indexes for the 2 ports 0, 1 and the load is 55 and AA
so why is that
index load port no of bits ---------on the 3560 switch
0 00 gi0/1 0
0 00 gi0/2 0

Hi Ahmed,
What is the state of each etherchannel?
Can you please provide the output of a sho etherchannel summary from each device?
Cheers

I think, for 3560 or 3700 switches it is normal o/p. You will notice some #s on models like 6500 etc.

Hi Ahmed,
If you look at the output of sh interface po40 on each switch are the packets input and output counters changing? This may help you confirm whether or not the link is working and if the output of sh etherchannel summ on the 3560 is in error.
Hope this helps,
Jeff
