UCS C220 M3 SFF HUU gets stuck and gives error

In the process of HUU Upgrading the UCS C220M3 SFF on one of the servers gives the following error while copying the image to RAM. THis is even before the HUU process kicks in.

Copy of squashfs image to ram failed. Please check vmedia connection reconnect and retry.

The vmedia though is already connected so not sure about this error message.

I will retry this again tomorrow, however I just want to know if the HUU fails again what is the best process to follow to upgrade the firmware individually instead of HUU.

Hi dganta,

Are you booting from dvd/cd? Have you tried to re-burn the iso or use a different external dvd drive?

This error is typical indication of memory exhaustion or lack/loss of network connectivity for KVM.

Do you have all option ROM enabled for all PCIE slots? This can cause issues when HUU is trying to initialize. Please attempt to disable option ROM for PCIE slots not in use.

If you are not on the same subnet as the CIMC, try to run HUU from a PC that is local to CIMC or at least closer on the network.

If you still face issues, you can manually activate the CIMC and BIOS through the web client and then upgrade other components using HUU.

You may also attempt the HUU upgrade using a different browser client.

Hi,

I got the same issue

I was able to isolate the issue was due to the uplink switchport.

I was remote to my  server but my CIMC port was connected to Mgmt switch and LOM ports were connected to DATA switch and CIMC was configured to use Dedicated port. Since I was remote to the server and no one was available on the site to switch cables. So i changed the CIMC port from Dedicated ports to LOM ports and retried the HUU upgrade and seems like it fixed the issue.
