 - Both controller model and AP's are old (including the  current software version being used on  the controller) , last supported version for the 1142N is 8.3.x , try that version on the 5508.

Does the issue disappear after a restart of the AP? If not and it's only that one, it might have a broken radio.

upgrade from 7.4 to 8.0 and reset of the AP, it still has lots of up and down from this AP in office hours.

AP's Interface:1(802.11a) Operation State Up: Base Radio MAC:24:b6:57:ae:c3:50 Cause=Indicates that while the radio state should be updated on controller, no reset should be reported. Status:NA

Broken radio?   Should i give it up?

I wouldn't spend to much time into this old AP. If needed, you might cheaply get them on Ebay or similar.
