Assistance configuring multi SSID Air-lap 1142

I need some help with configuring an autonomous 1142 ap. I enter the GUI set up two vlans 100 and 200. vlan 100 has corporate wifi and vlan 200 has guest wifi. I signals appear on my phone but when i go to connect to them I don't get an IP address. I do see the ap turn blue and i do see the phone mac address on the GUI. But a 0.0.0.0 is under the ip address. I have a dhcp server for IP's so I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks.

OK so

1) when you  tried with DHCP server on a Windows server VM, was it in the same subnet / vlan as your wireless client ?

If yes, try to address staticaly a station then try to join your server (ping or whatever) to check your L2 connectivity (through the bridge).

If not, then you need a DHCP relay point on the segment (either on the gateway or the AP itself with BVI interface). Where is the gateway ?

2) when you tried with DHCP server on the AP itself, did you a BVI interface for that with an IP address from the subnet the DHCP is distributing ?

Vlans concept on autonomous AP :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/aironet-1100-series/46141-vlanswireless.html#vlanap

Here an example for vlan 100 with DHCP server on AP :

- follow bridge WLAN config example for vlan 100 : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/aironet-1100-series/46141-vlanswireless.html#apconfig

- add a BVI interface :

int bvi100

ip address <IP different than the gateway> <mask>

no shut

- add the DHCP pool server

ip dhcp pool DHCP-pool-vl100

network <subnet> <mask>

default-router <IP>

dns-server <IP>

ip dhcp-excluded address <IP of AP on BVI100>

Regards

 -  Do you really need to start configuring and using this particular AP model 'from the Middle Ages' ; if you value your business have a look at :        https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/wireless/access-point-controller-selector.html

Unfortunatley yes. We aren't upgrading our wifi until the end of the year. Assuming corporate even agrees to the upgrade.

   - Then urge them to comply with modern standards , for business performance. It makes no sense 'to go back' to those models (also use the argument : security , usually works)

These units are in production right now. We aren't blowing the dust on them and turning them on just now. The majority of the aps are talking to the WLC but theres several that aren't so I converted them to autonomous.

Hi

Where did you set the dhcp server ?

If it is on the AP itself, if I do remember well, you have to set an BVI layer 3 interface adressed in the same prefix for each vlan you plan to serve with DHCP lease.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/15-3-3/configuration/guide/cg15-3-3/cg15-3-3-chap5-admin.html?bookSearch=true#25876

If it is on another device with DHCP server in the same vlan/subnet, you may have to verify your bridge configuration between the wlan and the vlan on Ethernet side :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/15-3-3/configuration/guide/cg15-3-3/cg15-3-3-chap14-vlan.html#20108

If it is on another device but with DHCP server in another vlan/subnet, you'll also need to use a DHCP relay service on a layer 3 gateway of the subnet.

All those points are basic DHCP concepts not related specificaly to this model of autonomous AP.

Regards

Thanks for the assistance. The dhcp server is on a windows server os vm. I tried to add a dhcp server on the ap itself but it didn't add ip addresses when trying to connect

Thank you very much. I was able to add dhcp on the ap itself and ip addresses were being assigned. I could also use the dhcp server on the windows vm. Options are good. I appreciate the help.

sysadmin@cwcmh.org I endorse your efforts too , but keep stressing your business to go for modern wireless solutions. These APs offer outdated wireless performance and so , bad  feelings for your business customers , guests ,or other....
