Corrupt U-Boot

Hello,

I'm new to using cisco products, and I'm having an issue with a 9120AXI-B access point.

What Happened:

  • Bought this AP off of eBay.
  • Downloaded "C9800-AP-universalk9.17.12.05.zip" to my computer (Cisco's recommended version of EWC for this AP).
  • I booted up the AP, connected via a console cable, logged in with the default password, set the hostname, and started a tftp transfer of the new EWC firmware from my computer to the AP, using the command below.
    • ap-type mobility-express tftp://192.168.40.19/ap1g7 tftp://192.168.40.19/C9800-AP-iosxe-wlc.bin

  • .After running this command and rebooting, I was able to get to the EWC WEB UI.
  • While trying to configure the UI, I was noticing some really funky behaviors from the interface, so I decided to factory reset the device to see if it would correct the behavior.
  • Upon boot after the factory reset I got this output from the CLI

  • The garbage text continues for a couple minutes and then comes to a stop. Then every time I hit any character (including Enter) it spits out more garbage.

I'm looking for guidance on where to go from here. I can't see the prompt to be able to put in commands, which rules out a lot... The AP is useless as is right now. So I'm not sure what to do.

Hello @Bradley Rousseau,

the new IOS-XE versions for the APs change the default console speed from 9600 to 115200.

So nothing wrong with your AP, you just need to change the console speed on your terminal program to the new console speed to get readable output.

This change was introduced with 17.12 to reduce overall AP boot time.

HTH!

See the link in my signature below for details <wink>
It takes effect when you factory reset any AP running the new software.
