Mobility express newbie question

techrobison

Hi all.  I’m pretty experienced using Cisco AireOS wireless controllers, but I’m new to using Mobility Express.  I have on my workbench an 1852 AP running 8.10.x mobility express code, and I have 2x 1700s and a 702 running CAPWAP code associated to it with no issues.  My question is this: in the mobility express dashboard running on the 1852, I see the 1700s and the 702, and I see the clients attached to them, but I don’t see the 1852 AP and any clients attached to it in the dashboard.  Is that normal?  If not, how do I fix that?

edit: one assumption I’m making is that the 1852 is in this scenario acting both as an AP and as a controller.  Is that correct?

TIA,

Brian

You will not see that as AP, the Only AP associated one to ME (that act as WLC)

Since that ME, it will not him self. but client connection should show, since that ME act as AP too.

As per i know you should see if any clients are connected to ME or Master AP.

Master Access Point functions as Wireless LAN Controller manages Subordinate Access Points and also serves clients at the same time.

how have they placed these AP next to each other? so clients prefer to connect best as chosen.

what is firmware running here on ME?

My work area is fairly large, so I have the APs scattered about fairly evenly, but to your question, when I view the dashboard, I see enumerated the 1700s and the 702 (3 in total), but should I not see 4 total APs listed there?  Under admin, I see the same thing: 2 1700s and a 702, but no 1852.  Is there any possibility that I need to drop to the 1852 aireos shell and tell it to associate as an AP with itself?  I’m no expert - just spitballing here.  I’ll double check, but IIRC the dashboard reports version 8.10.151.0.

I think you should be able to see your ME AP there:
 https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/mob_exp/83/user_guide/b_ME_User_Guide_83/b_ME_User_Guide_83_chapter_0110.html#topic_40602E4357364818A781D7B17615C9F8
Console to the AP and check the status from the WLC CLI using: apciscoshell
Login to the AP using the credentials you set up initially.

How are your APs getting IP addresses?  The WLC and AP each require an IP so your DHCP pool needs to have enough for each to get its own IP.  If you're using static IPs then you need to manually configure the AP.
