Can we use R-type antennas on a N-connector AP - and vice versa?

Using the appropriate R-N adapters to physically connect the two, is this acceptable?

If acceptable, what is the impact on signal strength and coverage?

Why not.. that be why 'adaptors' were created. For our purposes, they will have no impact upon performance.

Folks have done this especially with 3rd party access points. The only thing to understand is the db loss from adapters.  This will affect your total eirp.

It will work, but it is not ideal.  There will be a small amount of Rf loss because of the adapter.  Also, inexpensive (read "cheap") adapters can become problematic over long periods of time.
