Hello,

I have an issue on a NCS-57C3-MODS-SYS platform. This issue occured when i tried to DOWNGRADE from IOS-XR 7.6.2 to 7.5.2 via CSM Server.

After reload, i have a booting loop : GRUB Loader(snipshot attached) -> error output below:

=============================================================

Booting from Disk..
Loading Kernel..
Success: Cisco Secure Boot Check Passed!
/boot/bzImage verified using ciscosec protocol.
Loading initrd..
Success: Cisco Secure Boot Check Passed!
/boot/initrd.img verified using ciscosec protocol.
error: invalid file name `signfile=/boot/signature.initrd.img'.

Press any key to continue...

=============================================================

Grub loader(even if i select System Host OS or System Host OS Recovery, the result is the same, it forwards to the same error invalid file name presented above)

A little help would be much appreciated

Hello @neagucatalin2 ,
I can confirm that your downgrade path from 7.6.2 to 7.5.2 is supported, no need to have bridge SMUs despite the fact kernel architecture is changing between 7.6.2 and 7.5.2.

Hence, looking at your error message and from experience, the only way for you to recover would be to use USB or PXE boot.

Hope it helps.

Have a nice day.

Kind Regards,
Antoine

thanks @anpetit . it worked with USB boot.

I have 2 questions if you can reply i'd be grateful:

-What would be a stable version for 57C3 platform? Could you advise please?

-When i initially booted from USB, i did that with version 7.10.2, then i loaded 7.9.2, everything went fine, despite that when i try to load SMU s for 7.9.2, it says that (0/0/CPU0)rootfs: is full.

Kind regards,

Catalin

show install inactive summary >> if there are inactive packages we can make room via this command

install remove inactive all

can check "show media"  before and after to check space.

thanks

tried that... on show media location all, i see that rootfs: that resideds on 0/0/CPU is not emptying that much even after removing inactive pkg.

Above remaining space after removing inactive and superseeded.

Any advices on how to access and empty that?

Hello @neagucatalin2 ,
Thanks for your reply.
I would target 7.8.2, 7.9.2 or 7.10.2. These are the most recent MD release. Depending on the feature you are running, I would also check to build a GISO to integrate SMU directly in your iso.

Regarding rootfs being used at 79%, is it a lab device ?
If yes, I would try to reload the card with the following CLI from admin mode:

hw-module location all reload

Otherwise, if it's a device in production, we will need more logs, best way would be to open a TAC case to have this troubleshooted.
One question from my side, does install remove inactive all as been performed in both XR and admin mode ?
Have a nice day.

Kind Regards,

Antoine
