I have several asset groups I use to manage my assets.  Until recently, when looking at an asset, I could add a "asset tag" directly from the asset window and it would put that asset into any group I had already created.  Now when I go to add an asset to a group, it takes me to the asset group page where I can't add anything.  Please restore this functionality.

Thank you for the question Scott.  We just released a new Asset Group feature that aims to reduce your maintenance time spent on asset groups.  That new feature is Dynamic Asset Groups.  These groups are different from the previous groups in that you specify criteria for the group's membership and the membership of the group stays up-to-date dynamically as your asset list changes.  Would that type of group be more helpful for you?  Would love to hear how your are using static asset groups and the need to add one device at a time from the Asset screen.

Hi, Scott! Thanks for this feedback. The edit now takes you to the asset groups page to make any edits from there since introducing our dynamic asset group functionality. With this, you can set up rules to automatically update asset groups if they match the criteria you have set.

Beyond that, we are already looking at ways to make it a little closer to what you were used to with the edit functionality coming directly from the button above the chips. We are actively working on updates.

Hello All - Thanks for the replies.  The Dynamic asset groups are definitely a nice step forward but in the Dynamic asset critieria, we need to be able to add according to IP address range.  As for how I use static groups, I produce a network health report every quarter where I weigh network assets by importance to business continuity.  I.e. Core Switches are tagged with the Core Switch asset tag, Routers are tagged the same, Wireless LAN controllers, etc., This approach allows me to quickly import the data from CX Cloud and add the appropriate weight based upon the tag.

I also use the tagging to designate what sites all of our assets are a member of.  I.e. Warehouse1, Warehouse2, etc.,  This is crucial for me as the dynamic tagging doesn't allow IP ranges to be specified.

The way the platform works now doesnt make it possible for me to add the "Wireless" tag for a new site without having to go through multiple steps and get those 40 assets into a spreadsheet and then import them.

Another nice feature would be to allow multiple selections at the Campus asset page.  I.e. I can select all access points I want, add the "wireless" asset group tag and move on.  Today, I have to select one asset at a time and it takes forever.

Appreciate the feedback, happy to discuss further if needed

Scott,
Thank you so much for the detailed response. This is super helpful to the team. We have plans to add IP Address as one of the dynamic criteria in the future. We have also been exploring the idea of adding a tagging feature and then permitting dynamic asset groups based on those tags. I am pretty sure the multi-select for tagging has also been discussed, but it is a good reminder.
The team is looking into restoring the previously functionality for one at a time adds to asset groups. In the meantime, one way you could accomplish the bulk update of an asset group is to perform a search in assets and export to CSV. Weed out what you don’t want. If that is the full list, you can just replace the asset group membership with that export and you’ll have an updated asset group. The replace with CSV is a full replacement, so make sure it has everything you want. You could also export the current asset group and then just add the other serials to that export and re-import it.
