Hi All,

I have recently bought a couple of 7821 phones, can someone help me with prerequisites, procedure & precautionary methods to be followed.

Find the CUCM info, please.

CUCM Version: 8.5.1.15900-4

Server Type:  MCS 7835I2

A quick help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance..

You can register 7821 phones to CUCM 8.5 but you will need to install the 8.5(1.18141) Device Pack first of all. You will need to install the device pack on all the servers in the cluster followed by a cluster reboot to enable the option to add 78XX device.

Rest remains the same as you normally do to add a new phone to CUCM

Hello Deepak,

Thank you for your help.

May you please let me know whether device pack is related device/phone firmware or cucm version?? (please elaborate on this)

Please provide a step-by-step Roll back? just in case

what are all the necessary backup items required?

Also find the below links, which says 78xx firmware can be installed directly on cucm 8.5.1 and restart TFTP services, what do you think??

you won't be able to do rollback after device pack is loaded.

do take snapshot of existing firmware of ip phones before uploading device pack s as to avoid upgrading other models.

regds,

aman

Hi All,

I am going to implement this change on coming Friday 25-Feb-2016.

When you say cluster reboot, can you help me with recommended procedure to reboot, and I have 1067 phones registered to PUB and 176 to SUB, so I am not sure which one to begin with..

Thank you in advance.

You should always do it on Publisher first followed by Subscriber 1, 2 and so on. In order to restart the server, run below command from CLI:

utils system restart

Don't worry about the fact that you have majority phones registered to CUCM Pub, till the time they have CUCM subscriber in their CM group they will register to that while the Publisher remains unavailable and vice versa. Simply, check the Cisco CM Group in the DP you are using there for phones to make sure they it has entry for both the Call Manager servers in the selected group.

Deepak

Deepak you are the first and best to help. Thank you

Will keep you posted.

Hello Deepak,

Also the device pack is of 860MB in size, how do I make sure my servers have the capacity to support such a huge file??

p

sorry but my client do not have Cisco contract or partner support.

What happens to the current/existing device pack if CUCM encounters the above issue.

If you can also provide with a step-by-step device pack installation procedure/related document will be a great help...

Nothing will happen to the existing DP or the phones for that matter. Refer to the documentation that comes with Device Package and Admin guide, there is lot of stuff available on the web in from of videos, documents etc.

Look through them.

Deepak

As far as OS administration interface is concerned, it has SFTP protocol to upload files and that should be fine to proceed further with this change, what do you suggest, Deepak?

Applicable for any other Device Pack as well

Deepak

Hi Deepak,

May I know why is it recommended that publisher should be restarted first.

I am asking this because, I need to provide justification in change request to the management.

Thank you

When you install a devicepack that has adds support for new devices you need a cluster wide reboot. And you must install the devicepack first on the pub before installing on any sub(s).

I first do a reboot of the pub, and then the sub(s), but I am not sure if this is required.
