PVDM3 with NM-HDV2 module

Hi guys,

We have a new 3945 running on IOS1 15.1.4M, it has one NM-HDV2-2T1/E1 and one PVDM3-64. I got following error message when I tried to create one E1 pri channel. We don't need any voice conferencing or transcode on this router. From the DSP calculator, it suggests me to use PVDM2-64 which should be sit on the NM-HDV2 module. Does it mean NM-HDV2 module can't use the PVDM3 resource on the router itself, or just NM-HDV2 module is not compatable with PVDM3?

% Not enough DSP resources available to configure pri-group on controller E1 4/0

% The remaining dsp resources are enough for 0 time slots.

% For current codec complexity, 2 extra 16 channel dsp(s) are required to create this voice port.

outcome from DSP calculator

Router: 3945
IOS: 15.1(4)M
DSP Modules Required:

PVDM2-64: 1

DSP Module Allocation:
Router Slot 4:60 Voice (94%) 4 Available (6%)

PVDM Slot 4/0: PVDM2-64

Call Volume Allocation:

LowMedHigh
Router Slot 4: NM-HDV2-2T1/E1(E1)60

Thanks. Leo

HI

You cannot install PVDM3 modules directly on the  PVDM slots of an NM-HDV2, only the PVDM2s are supported by the NM-HDV2.  However, an NM-HDV2 that has no PVDMs installed at all can share PVDM3  DSP resources from the router motherboard PVDM slots across the chassis  backplane.

Hi Ronak, Thanks for your reply.

So the NM-HDV2 should be able to use the PVDM3 on mother board, but why did I get the error said not enough DSP when I created the PRI channel?

Leo

Hi Leo,

Have you installed it PVDM 3 on NM-HDV2 or on mother board?

Send the sh run of router if possible.

What exactly are you trying to do? You don;t need the NM-HDV2-2T1/E1, but just a VWIC2 or VWIC3, and the PVDM3.

Hi Paolo,

The story was the vendor didn't have VWIC2 or VWIC3 in stock then gave us the NM-HDV2-2T1/E1. Does it mean NM-HDV2 can't use the PVDM resource on mother borad?

Thanks. Leo

There is no VWIC card on NM-HDV2-2T1/E1, we are trying to use the two E1 ports on NM module.

Any documents from Cisco explain this situation?
