PVDM4 module for NIM-2MFT-T1/E1

While configuring E1 PRI on ISR 4321 router I am getting below error.

VGW001(config-controller)#pri-group timeslots 1-31
E1 0/1/0: No voice port or DSP resource for voice feature
E1 0/1/0: For MFT T1E1 modules, pri-group has to have DSP (PVDM4) modules installed.
E1 0/1/0: Please check if DSP module is plugged in before configuring pri-group!

E1 0/1/0: This pri-group configuration is REJECTED!
No configuration will be applied

Can we remove PVDM4 module from ISR 4000 series router motherboard and install it on NIM-2MFT-T1/E1 card to configure E1 PRI?

Can we use this PVDM4 on NIM mudule for other IP services such as transcode and conference while no other PVDM will be present on motherboard, other than on NIM-2MFT-T1/E1 module?

Yes, the PVDM4 can be moved from the motherboard to the NIM module. The excess resources can be used for Conferencing transcoding once it has been moved;

From;

Cisco 4000 Series PVDMs are available in two form factors with four supported densities in each form factor:

   Motherboard PVDMs (PVDM4) for densities up to 256 channels (Figure 1)

   PVDM enhanced services modules (SM-X-PVDM) for densities up to 3080 channels (Figure 2)

The motherboard PVDMs are supported on all Cisco 4000 Series ISRs. They can be plugged directly into the single slot on the router motherboard or into the network interface module (NIM) that supports T1/E1 ports. A PVDM4 module plugged into the motherboard delivers IP-based voice services such as conferencing, media optimization, and transcoding only.

A PVDM4 module plugged into the T1/E1 NIM would be used for voice T1/E1 connectivity. Any excess channels can be reused toward other IP-based services supported on the motherboard slot. Enhanced DSP architecture accommodates a new packet-processing engine optimized for rich-media voice applications, while concurrently supporting the TDM-IP voice framework.

The PVDM4s used on the motherboard are identical to those on the T1/E1 module and so it is possible to move them.

I think that they can be used for transcoding but have not actually tested doing this.

ISR4321 does not come with a PVDM on the motherboard :/

Regarding excess PVDM4 channels installed on NIM cards, is it mandatory to have PVDM4 card on the mother slot or excess channels can work without any PVDM4 ships installed on the motherboard of ISR4000

We ordered a 4331 that I believe comes with PVDM4-32 on the motherboard. We also ordered separate PVDM4-256. We have a NIM-4ft-T1-E1 card going in it to support 3 E1's. My question is should we move the PVDM4-256 to the NIM card and keep the 32 on the Motherboard or switch it the other way?

If you plan to use all the PRI ports, yes you would need to move the 256 card to the NIM. If you want to use only one PRI, you can move 32 card to the NIM.
