[Relocating this post from another thread]
"I'm seeing an issue with just the base "out of box" (8 ports per FI) licensing. It shows that there is a 120 grace period and it's used 3 of them.
Here is the error:
warning F067093835 sys/license/feature-ETH_PORT_ACTIVATION_PKG-cisco-1.0/inst-A/fault-F0670 license-graceperiod-entered license for ETH_PORT_ACTIVATION_PKG on fabric-interconnect A has entered into the grace period.
warning F067093836 sys/license/feature-ETH_PORT_ACTIVATION_PKG-cisco-1.0/inst-B/fault-F0670 license-graceperiod-entered license for ETH_PORT_ACTIVATION_PKG on fabric-interconnect B has entered into the grace period."
Note the following changes in regards to licensing:
- Prior to 1.4 the first 8 ports were "licensed" by default (16 ports for the 6140). From 1.4 and later you can use any 8/16 ports.
- Each port maintains its own 120 day grace period.
- Port licenses are bound to the Fabric Interconnect Serial #
- Licenses are NOT applied to a port until it's Enabled
- Expansion modules ports are NOT licensed from the port pool. They are fully enabled at manufacturing (their own built-in license)
- You must install licenses "symetrically" (Each FI with the same # of licenses) to avoid inconsistencies during a failover.
If you're having issues with licenses check/provide the following output:
scope license
show usage detail
show file detail
scope eth-server
show interface
scope eth-uplink
show interface

Thanks for the outputs. Just to confirm you upgraded from 1.3.x to 1.4 correct?
I believe this may be just a bug. I'm working with our Dev team to confirm and will update this thread as soon as I have more information.
Regards,
Robert

Thats Correct, i upgraded a cluster of FI 6120 from 1.3.1p to 1.4.1i.

Mine was also an upgrade from 1.3(1n). The documentation seems to indicate that once the 120 grace period ends, the ports will deactivate, so let's hope this gets resolved before then!

Guys,
1. Can you each gather a UCSM tech support bundle and upload it our FTP server.
connect local-management
show tech-support ucsm detail
2. Copy the file off the Interconnect using SCP/FTP/TFTP.
3. Prefix the tar bundle filename with "roberbur_" (this iwll help me find it quickly)
4. Upload it to the Cisco FTP site. This will require a CCO ID.
ftp-sj.cisco.com
authenticate using your CCO username/password
drop into the /incoming folder
Let me know when you've dumped the tech support bundle and I'll retrieve it.
As everyone is back from Holidays we'll investigate this full swing this week. If you have any issues, let me know.
Thanks!
Robert

Hi Rob,
my system was a 1.3.1(o) upgrade to 1.4.1(i) - looks like all ports are in grace period - not a single one has valid license.

Robert,
I sent you a private message with the file name I uploaded yesterday morning. Did you see it?
01-04-2011 02:10 PM
Robert,
One other note... The Show tech detail calls the deprecated licensing commands (which only tell you to use the new commands), so you may want to enter that as a bug for v1.4.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We've root caused the issue and are working on a patch release. We're tracking this under Bug ID is CSCtl22487.
Once I have an ETA for availability I will update this thread. It will be available before any grace tickers expire.
@Jsessler - Thanks for catching this - I'll review and log this as a separate bug.
Regards,
Robert

I found the solution. At least it worked on my environmnet.
Go to the GUI and start Disable and Enable all the ports one by one (just the server ports that are in used).
You will start getting License OK on the CLI as you do this. Once you are done the warning alarms you were getting on UCS Manager will be gone.
See my new results below.

Correct. Here's the workaround from the Bug Release notes:
1. Enable some unused ports (ports which were not enabled before upgrade, for example server ports)
2. Check their licensing state, if it is license-ok which will release a license back to the pool, and one of the port running in grace-period will
pick this license.
3. Repeat this process until you have all your ports reinstated to license-ok state or you run out of licenses.
Note: You can enable multiple ports (as long as you have them enabled in license-ok state) and delete them together to save time.

Robert
