I am having trouble getting up an ATM connection between 2 6509's in a lab. Is there anything I need to configure one the interfaces besides no shut and ip addresses?

I would like to know whether it is recommended to keep "no ip route cache" command on the core or distribution. What is the performance affect of having this command on these boxes? Thanks
