Release 7.0(x) to 8.0(x) | Upgrades from Release 7.0(x) to Release 8.0(x) require the UCSInstall_CUP_*.sgn.iso file. Perform these steps to order the "Installation and Upgrade (7.0(x) to 8.0.(x))" upgrade DVD and acquire the .isofile as part of your Cisco Unified Presence order: 1. Go to http://www.cisco.com/upgrade. 2. Enter your software contract number. 3. Select the CUP7-8-0-U-K9= option to order. If you do not see the CUP7-8-0-U-K9= option, contact your Cisco Account Team and/or Reseller to resolve your Contract issue. 4. Install the "Installation and Upgrade (7.0(x) to 8.0.(x))" upgrade DVD that Cisco provides. |

Cisco does not support downloading major Cisco Unified Presence software releases from Cisco.com, for example, Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.0(1). From Cisco.com you can download upgrade-only software images that are used to upgrade from a previous major software release to a subsequent software point release of Cisco Unified Presence. For example, you can download Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.0(2) from Cisco.com.
To download this software, go to http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/Redirect.x?mdfid=278875240. You must have an account on Cisco.com to access the Software Center. The images posted at the Software Center require existing installations of Cisco Unified Presence.

I have not done this upgrade yet but based on my interpretation of the
release notes, you cannot use the ISO images on CCO to upgrade from one
major release to another.

Basically, my read is you can only use the CCO images to apply maintenance
releases. If you want to upgrade from 7x to 8x then you will need to order

Hi there,
Just checking to see if you managed to do the upgrade. Am planning to do it myself in a couple of days. Have got the upgrade disc from Cisco for it. One of the things I noticed is that the device type will need to change. With ver 7, the device type was unified personal communicator whereas with ver 8 it has changed to client services framework. Am planning to use BAT to deal with this. Are there any other gotchas you stumble upon? Thanks in advance.

Hey Nelson,
Just so you know, you can still use the CUPC 7.x clients with CUPS 8.0.2 and above
This will give you time to test a couple of users with the new CUPC 8.x before migrating everybody to the new client.

Hi,
Just wonderinf whether anyone had actually performed this upgrade. I have received the "Installation and Upgrade (7.0(x) to 8.0.(x))" upgrade DVD from Cisco however if I go to Software Upgrades, it does not find a valid upgrade.
It is a bootable DVD - when I boot it goes into the setup for 8.0. Will this upgrade my 7.0 version if I continue, or will it install a fresh version of 8.0?
Looking for someone who has actually performed the upgrade to advise how to do it! The steps are a bit vague I think!
Thanks,
Matt

If you boot into it, pretty sure it will overwrite your 7. That's not an upgrade scenario.
What version of 7 are you?

Hi,
I did a successful upgrade a couple of weeks ago.
I got the upgrade DVD for CUPS 8.0(4), put it in the server drive then selected Software Upgrades > Install/Upgrade from OS Admin and installed the upgrade.
I then switched versions and installed the upgrade license file. Everything worked fine (this was on an IBM x3250 M2 server).
The only issue I had was that CUPC 8.5 had issues working with CUPS 8.0(4). When I tried CUPC 8.0 everything worked ok.
