NAM module for 6513

Hi,I have 3 6500's, 2 x 6513 and 1 x 6509.I keep hearing about a NAM module and wondering, what does a NAM module do and do I have to install 1 in each core switch?Will it provide me more then 2 SPAN session per switch?
